What it does, concretely
Switching between applications to find a file, translate text or run a command wastes time and breaks focus. Raycast centralises all these actions in a launcher accessible with a single keyboard shortcut, without ever leaving the keyboard.
In practice, you press a shortcut to open Raycast, then type what you want to do: launch an app, summarise text, create a Linear task, control Spotify or block your calendar. The built-in AI, called Quick AI, responds without opening a new window. An AI agent can chain actions across multiple tools such as Linear and Things.
Raycast is aimed at professionals who work primarily with a keyboard: developers, designers, content creators and anyone who juggles many tools on a daily basis. The community has over 37,000 members on Slack and thousands of extensions available in the Store.
However, if you mainly use a mouse or do not need to automate your workflow, Raycast will bring little value. The app is available on Mac, Windows and iOS, but the core experience is designed with macOS in mind.
