What it does, concretely

Preparing lessons, grading papers, differentiating instruction: these time-consuming tasks leave little room for what matters most. Khanmigo, developed by the nonprofit Khan Academy, offers an always-available teaching assistant designed to ease that daily burden.

The tool works directly in the browser. It relies on GPT-4 and Khan Academy's content library to guide learners through questions rather than giving answers outright. For teachers, it generates standards-aligned lesson plans, rubrics, quiz questions, learning objectives, and exit tickets within minutes.

Khanmigo is aimed at teachers, parents, and students from elementary school through college. Subjects covered include math, science, coding, history, and humanities. A parent can add up to ten children under 18 to their account.

Access for parents and learners is restricted to United States residents with a US billing address. Teachers can sign up for free from a wider range of countries. Classroom access requires a partnership at the school or district level.

How to install Khanmigo

1. Go to khanmigo.ai from your browser. 2. Choose your profile: teacher, parent, or learner. 3. For teachers, click "Sign up for free" and create or log in to a Khan Academy account. 4. For parents and learners (US residents only), subscribe to a monthly or annual plan with a US billing address. 5. If you are a parent, add your children (up to 10, under 18) from your account after subscribing. 6. Do not share your account credentials: each child must be added through the parent account to ensure appropriate supervision.
