Reverso addresses a specific problem: understanding how a word or expression is actually used in a foreign language, rather than simply finding its dictionary equivalent. The tool displays each translation alongside sentences drawn from official documents, movie subtitles, and real-world publications, making it possible to grasp nuances and register.
In practice, you type a word or expression and Reverso Context returns several possible translations, each illustrated by bilingual examples from real corpora processed by machine learning algorithms. The tool also offers a grammar and spell checker, a conjugation engine covering ten languages, a synonyms dictionary, and a rephrasing tool.
Reverso is aimed at language learners, students, teachers, and professionals who write or proofread texts in a foreign language. The mobile app also lets you listen to full example sentences pronounced by native speakers and perform voice searches.
However, Reverso is not designed to translate long documents in one go: the free version limits text translation to 2,000 characters, and file translation (Word, Excel, PDF) is subject to annual quotas even on paid plans. Users who need to translate large volumes of documents should consider a subscription or a dedicated tool.
