What it does, concretely
Writing without errors in a foreign language, or even in one's native tongue, remains challenging: traditional spell checkers miss grammatical mistakes, style issues, and punctuation errors. LanguageTool fills this gap by analysing text in depth, going well beyond simple letter-by-letter verification.
The tool underlines errors in real time as you type: red for spelling and blue for style. It offers correction suggestions directly within the interface, and double-clicking any word displays its synonyms. An AI-based paraphrasing tool also allows entire sentences to be rewritten to make them more formal, concise, or simple.
LanguageTool is aimed at anyone who writes regularly: students finalising a thesis, professionals drafting emails or reports, journalists, or non-native speakers wanting to write in a foreign language. It supports more than 30 languages and dialects, including six varieties of English.
It will be less suitable for those who only need a basic spell checker already built into their word processor, or for those who want comprehensive correction without subscribing to a paid plan, as the most advanced suggestions are reserved for the Premium version.
