Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

AI pipelines based on document retrieval (RAG) often fail when faced with complex PDFs: poorly structured tables, forms, charts, and multi-column layouts. LlamaParse solves this by turning these documents into clean, structured text that language models can directly use.

In practice, you send a file via the API or Python SDK, choose a processing tier (including an 'agentic' mode for the most challenging documents), and retrieve the result as Markdown, JSON, or plain text. The platform supports over 130 file formats, including PDFs, Excel files, scanned images, and presentations.

LlamaParse is aimed at developers building document AI applications: data extraction, conversational agents over document corpora, and production RAG pipelines. The platform also offers complementary modules for extracting structured data against a schema (Extract), classifying documents (Classify), splitting concatenated files (Split), and indexing for vector search (Index).

This is not a tool suited for non-technical users: there is no consumer-facing interface, and everything goes through an API key and code. Those looking for a no-code solution will need to look elsewhere.

What it offers

  • ·Converts PDFs, scanned images, and 130+ formats into Markdown or JSON text ready for LLMs.
  • ·Agentic processing tier for complex documents with difficult layouts (paid).
  • ·Extracts tables, forms, checkboxes, and fillable grids from documents.
  • ·Structured data extraction against a custom schema via the Extract module (paid).
  • ·Automatic document classification using natural-language rules via the Classify module.
  • ·Splits concatenated files into their logical parts via the Split module.
  • ·Hosted vector indexing and search for RAG pipelines via the Index module (paid).
  • ·Multi-language SDK support: Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, and a command-line interface.

How to install LlamaParse

1. Create an account on the LlamaCloud dashboard and retrieve your API key. 2. Store the key in an environment variable: export LLAMA_CLOUD_API_KEY=llx-... 3. Install the Python SDK: pip install llama-cloud>=2.8 4. Import the client in your script: from llama_cloud import LlamaCloud 5. Instantiate the client (it reads the environment variable automatically): client = LlamaCloud() 6. Send your first file with client.files.create() then start parsing with client.parsing.parse().
pip install llama-cloud>=2.8
