Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

Applications built on language models are exposed to prompt injection attacks: malicious users or third-party content can hijack model behavior, exfiltrate data, or bypass business rules. Lakera Guard sits between your application and the model to block these attempts before they reach the model or any called tool.

In practice, each incoming or outgoing message is sent to the Lakera Guard API, which analyzes content in read-only mode and returns a verdict in under 50 ms. The platform covers both direct injections (user inputs) and indirect injections (content retrieved from external sources such as web pages or documents). It integrates via a REST API and provides a dashboard to monitor and govern AI interactions.

Lakera Guard is aimed at development teams and security leaders deploying AI agents or LLM applications in production who need a managed, auditable, and fast guardrail. The documentation explicitly distinguishes user profiles: security leaders, practitioners, developers, and evaluators.

This service is not suited to personal projects or zero-budget experimentation, as pricing is available on request only. Teams looking for a fully self-hosted solution should check available options directly with Lakera.

What it offers

  • ·Detection of direct prompt injections from user inputs before the model is called (paid).
  • ·Detection of indirect injections from dynamically retrieved third-party content before the model is called (paid).
  • ·Read-only analysis: the service does not modify messages, it only returns a verdict.
  • ·Sub-50 ms latency to avoid slowing down production pipelines (paid).
  • ·Centralized dashboard to discover, monitor, and govern all AI interactions (paid).
  • ·Coverage of AI agents and multi-tool workflows, not just simple chatbots (paid).
  • ·Documentation structured by profile (security leaders, practitioners, developers, evaluators) to ease integration.
