Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

AI agents and developers need clean, structured web content to work properly, but most websites are designed for humans: dynamic JavaScript, ads, menus, footers, and varied formats make reliable data extraction very difficult. Firecrawl solves this by turning any web page into LLM-ready markdown, structured JSON, or screenshots, with zero configuration required.

Concretely, Firecrawl offers three core functions accessible via an API: searching the web and retrieving full content from results, extracting content from a given URL, and interacting with a page by simulating clicks, inputs, or scrolls. It automatically handles JavaScript rendering, rotating proxies, rate limits, and smart waiting before extraction. It can also crawl an entire website, map all its URLs, or process thousands of pages in batch.

Firecrawl is aimed at developers building AI agents, RAG pipelines, deep research tools, lead enrichment workflows, or competitive intelligence systems. It is used by more than 150,000 companies and 1.25 million developers, including teams at Apple and Canva. It connects in minutes to Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible client.

However, Firecrawl is not designed for general audiences without technical skills: the tool is used primarily through an API, a Python or Node.js SDK, or a command-line interface. Users without development knowledge will find it difficult to use directly.

What it offers

  • ·Scrape: converts any URL into clean markdown, HTML, structured JSON, or screenshots, with automatic JavaScript handling.
  • ·Search: searches the web and returns full page content from results in a single API call.
  • ·Interact: allows an agent to click, fill forms, scroll, or navigate a page before extracting its content.
  • ·Crawl: explores all pages of a website in a single request and returns their content.
  • ·Map: instantly discovers all URLs on a website, with optional keyword filtering.
  • ·Batch Scrape: processes thousands of URLs asynchronously.
  • ·Agent: describe what you need in natural language and the tool searches, navigates, and retrieves data without requiring URLs upfront (paid).
  • ·MCP server: connects Firecrawl to any MCP-compatible client such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf in seconds.

How to install Firecrawl

1. Create an account at firecrawl.dev to obtain your API key (format: fc-XXXX). 2. Install the Python SDK with pip install firecrawl-py or the Node.js SDK with npm install firecrawl. 3. To connect Firecrawl to an MCP client (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf), run npx -y firecrawl-cli@latest init --all --browser then restart your agent. 4. Alternatively, add the MCP configuration manually in your client by setting your API key in the FIRECRAWL_API_KEY environment variable. 5. Never share your API key publicly: store it in an environment variable, not hardcoded in your source code.
npx -y firecrawl-cli@latest init --all --browser
