Exa
App : A product you use directly
Search engine designed for agents, with an official MCP integration.
The most relevant web search for an agent, ahead of classic APIs.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
AI agents need access to accurate, up-to-date web information, but traditional search engines are not designed to be queried programmatically: their results are too verbose, too slow, or too unreliable for automated use.
Exa offers a search API built for agents. It indexes over 1.4 trillion URLs, returns relevant excerpts rather than full pages, and can produce structured outputs (JSON) directly usable by a language model. Latency varies depending on the chosen mode: under 180ms in instant mode, around 450ms in fast mode, and up to about ten seconds for deep research.
Exa is primarily aimed at developers building AI agents, automated research pipelines, or applications that require real-time web data. Teams such as Cognition (Devin) and HubSpot use it to supply their agents with relevant context.
However, Exa is not a consumer-facing search engine with a polished visual interface. A user simply looking to browse the web without writing code or using an agent will find little use for it.
