What it does, concretely

Isolating a voice or extracting instruments from an audio track is a lengthy and technical task without the right tools. Ultimate Vocal Remover (UVR) addresses this need by automatically separating vocal and instrumental tracks from any audio file.

The application relies on several AI models specialized in audio source separation: MDX-Net, Demucs (v3 and v4), and VR Architecture. All processing happens locally on your own machine, with no data sent to an external server. Models can be downloaded directly from the interface.

UVR is aimed at musicians, producers, content creators, and audio enthusiasts who want to extract vocals, instrumentals, or stems (bass, drums, etc.) from existing recordings. The tool is free, open source under the MIT license, and available on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

However, the application requires capable hardware: an Nvidia GPU with at least 6 GB of VRAM is recommended for fast processing. On modest configurations or without a compatible GPU, processing times can be very long. Linux users must proceed with a manual installation.

What it offers

  • ·Vocal/instrumental separation using multiple AI models: MDX-Net, Demucs v3 and v4, VR Architecture.
  • ·4-stem separation (vocals, bass, drums, other) using Demucs v3 and v4 models.
  • ·Fully local processing: no audio data is sent over the internet.
  • ·Extended GPU compatibility: Nvidia CUDA acceleration, Apple MPS (M1) for Demucs v4 and all MDX-Net models, and a DirectML version for AMD Radeon and Intel Arc.
  • ·Built-in audio editing tools: pitch shift and time stretch via the Rubber Band library.
  • ·Support for non-WAV audio formats via FFmpeg (MP3, FLAC, etc.).
  • ·Automatic saving of settings between sessions.

How to install Ultimate Vocal Remover

1. Go to https://github.com/Anjok07/ultimatevocalremovergui/releases and download the installer for your system (Windows .exe, macOS .dmg in arm64 or x86_64 version). 2. On Windows, run UVR_v5.6.0_setup.exe and install strictly on the main C:\ drive. 3. On macOS, open the .dmg file and drag the application to your Applications folder. If macOS blocks the launch, follow the Terminal commands provided in the official documentation. 4. On Linux, download and extract the repository, install system dependencies (ffmpeg, python3-pip, python3-tk), create a Python virtual environment, then install dependencies via pip install -r requirements.txt. 5. On first launch, the application may take several minutes to start while loading the necessary components. 6. All processing remains local: no audio data is transmitted externally.
pip install -r requirements.txt
