What it does, concretely
Graphic designers working in Photoshop typically have to leave their software to access an AI image generator, which disrupts their workflow. The Stability AI plugin solves this by integrating Stable Diffusion models directly into a Photoshop panel, without switching applications.
In practice, the plugin sends the selected layers or active area to the Stability AI API (platform.stability.ai) and returns the result as a new layer in the open document. The user enters a text prompt, selects a mode (generation, inpainting, outpainting), and clicks Generate; results appear within seconds.
The plugin is aimed at graphic designers and illustrators already familiar with Photoshop who want access to Stable Diffusion models without using an external interface. It also suits professionals who need precise control over the processed area using Photoshop's native selection tools.
It is not suited to casual users who do not have a Stability AI platform account or API key, nor to those whose workflow is already covered by Adobe Firefly built into Photoshop. Users concerned about the confidentiality of their visuals should note that processed layers are transmitted to Stability AI's servers.
