What it does, concretely
In organizations that use Microsoft Teams, meetings pile up and conversation threads grow quickly. It becomes hard to track a decision made last week, know who is responsible for what, or catch up on a missed meeting without replaying the full recording.
Copilot in Teams integrates directly into meetings, calls, and chat threads. During a meeting, it can answer questions in real time about what was just said. After the meeting, it generates a structured recap with decisions, action items, and a speaker summary, provided a transcript or recording was enabled.
In chats and channels, Copilot can summarize a long thread, catch you up on a channel you muted, or help draft a message with a chosen tone. It can also query files shared during a meeting and, since late 2024, analyze visual content displayed on screen such as a PowerPoint presentation.
This tool is aimed at professionals who attend many Teams meetings and want to save time on note-taking and action tracking. It is less useful for teams that rarely work in Teams, that hold highly confidential meetings without transcription, or that do not have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

- ·Audio recap with chapters: narrated audio walkthrough of the meeting recap with section navigation (paid).
- ·Organizer access controls: the meeting organizer can restrict access to Copilot, the transcript, and recap content for participants.
