Udio
App : A product you use directly
High-quality music generation, now without file export.
Still excellent to the ear, but unusable for publishing: downloads have been disabled since the UMG deal.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Udio is aimed at anyone who wants to compose a complete song, with vocals and instruments, without going through a studio or mastering audio production software. From a text description or lyrics, the platform generates a track with vocals and arrangements in seconds, making it an accessible entry point for music creation.
In practice, generation works in segments of roughly 30 seconds, which are assembled and extended using the Extend feature. Each prompt can specify genre, mood, instruments, and vocal style. Additional tools then allow refinement: Inpaint to regenerate a specific portion of the track without touching the rest, Style Blending to merge multiple sonic references, and Voice Control to shape vocal characteristics.
Udio suits songwriters who want to test an idea quickly before entering a studio, podcasters looking for jingles or background music, and marketing teams that need custom audio without per-track licensing budgets. The free plan is sufficient to explore the platform and learn how to write effective prompts.
However, Udio is poorly suited to those who need exportable audio files immediately: since the licensing agreements with Universal Music Group (October 2025) and Warner Music Group (November 2025), downloads have been disabled for the vast majority of users. Commercial rights also remain unclear during this transition period, and the terms of service default to assigning ownership of creations to Udio and its partners.
