What it does, concretely
Producing professional-quality video usually requires several separate applications: one for editing, one for color grading, one for visual effects, and one for audio. DaVinci Resolve brings all these steps together in a single application, available for free.
The software is organized into dedicated pages: the Cut page for fast editing, the Edit page for complex projects, the Fusion page for visual effects and motion graphics, the Color page for grading, the Fairlight page for audio, and the Deliver page for export. Switching between them takes a single click, with no need to leave the application or convert files.
DaVinci Resolve includes an artificial intelligence engine called the DaVinci AI Neural Engine, which powers features such as facial recognition, smart reframing, color matching, transcription, voice isolation, and advanced slow motion. Version 21 adds IntelliSearch for fast content searching, CineFocus for focal point adjustment, and facial refinement tools.
The software is aimed at editors, colorists, VFX artists, and sound engineers, from beginners to Hollywood professionals. It is less suited to users looking for a simple, quick tool to publish a short video on social media, as the initial learning curve requires a meaningful time investment.
