Deterministic browser automation, exposed to the agent.
The foundation of most browser tools.

What it does, concretely
Reliably automating a web browser is a common challenge for developers testing applications, writing scripts, or connecting AI agents to web pages. Playwright addresses this need by providing a single API to drive Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit without relying on screenshots or vision models.
In practice, Playwright offers three modes of use: an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that gives AI agents full browser control through structured accessibility snapshots, a lightweight command-line interface designed for coding agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, and a full-featured test runner with auto-waiting, assertions, and parallelism across all browsers.
The tool targets developers writing end-to-end tests, teams automating web workflows, and integrators connecting AI agents to web interfaces. It is available for TypeScript, Python, .NET, and Java.
However, Playwright is not designed for non-technical users looking for a no-code solution: its installation and configuration require a development environment and programming knowledge.
What it offers
- ·MCP server compatible with VS Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, and any MCP client, providing full browser control through standard tool calls.
- ·Lightweight, token-efficient command-line interface designed specifically for coding agents that need to balance browser automation with large codebases.
- ·Support for Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit on Linux, macOS, and Windows, in both headless and headed modes.
- ·Auto-waiting before every action and assertions that retry automatically until conditions are met, with no artificial timeouts.
- ·Full test isolation: each test gets a fresh browser context, with the option to save and reuse authentication state.
- ·Resilient locators based on role, label, placeholder, or test ID, mirroring how users perceive the page.
- ·Session monitoring dashboard with live screencast previews of all running browser sessions, allowing real-time takeover.
- ·Test generator that records browser actions and automatically writes the corresponding test code and assertions.
