GitHub Copilot in Slack
Plugin : A set of capabilities installed into an AI application or a host · requires slack
Code and PR questions from Slack.
Useful for teams already on Copilot.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Development teams lose time switching between their coding environment and their team messaging app to discuss pull requests or ask technical questions. GitHub Copilot in Slack lets you query Copilot directly from Slack, without leaving the ongoing conversation.
In practice, the plugin is installed in the Slack workspace and allows users to ask questions about code, pull requests, or GitHub repositories directly within a thread. Copilot reads the threads it has been granted access to in order to provide contextualised answers.
This tool is aimed at development teams that already use GitHub Copilot and Slack on a daily basis. It extends Copilot's assistance to where technical discussions naturally take place.
On the other hand, it brings no value to teams that do not already have an active GitHub Copilot subscription, or to those who do not use Slack as their primary messaging platform.
