Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

Switching between tabs to copy data, fill forms, or extract information takes time and leads to errors. Claude in Chrome installs in the browser and handles these repetitive tasks on your behalf.

The extension reads the content of the active page, then clicks, types, and fills forms according to your instructions. It works in a side panel built into Chrome and can operate across multiple tabs at once if you add them to its tab group. Sensitive actions, such as purchases or CRM updates, wait for your approval before being executed.

Claude in Chrome is aimed at professionals who repeat the same web-based operations: pulling metrics from analytics dashboards, organizing files in Google Drive, preparing meetings from a calendar, or logging sales calls in Salesforce. Paired with Claude Cowork, it can turn web research into a PowerPoint report or an Excel model without any copy-pasting.

It is not suited for workflows involving banking data, medical records, or sensitive credentials. Anthropic explicitly advises against this and recommends starting with sites and tasks you already know well.

What it offers

  • ·Web page reading and interaction: the extension clicks, types, and fills forms in Chrome on your behalf. (paid)
  • ·Auto-approve mode with guardrails: Claude can work through a task without manual approval at each step, with a separate safety check before every action. (paid)
  • ·Per-site permissions mode: you grant access one site at a time for finer control over what Claude can reach. (paid)
  • ·Multi-tab operation: add multiple tabs to Claude's tab group so it works across your entire setup at once. (paid)
  • ·Integration with Claude Cowork: the side panel opens a full Cowork session with your already-configured skills and connectors. (paid)
  • ·Access to tools without an API: Claude can use internal portals, admin consoles, and invoice systems through your existing credentials. (paid)
  • ·Portable session history: conversations are saved to your account and accessible from Chrome, desktop, or mobile without re-explaining context. (paid)
  • ·Organizational control: on Team and Enterprise plans, admins enable or disable the extension org-wide and set site allowlists and blocklists. (paid)
