Merlin
Plugin : A set of capabilities installed into an AI application or a host · requires chrome
Multi-model assistant for summarising, writing and answering from any page.
Solid, in the same family as Sider and Monica.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Switching between AI tools by opening new tabs wastes time and breaks context. Merlin solves this by bringing more than twenty AI models (GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini, Llama, Mistral, Deepseek and others) into a single sidebar accessible from any webpage, without leaving what you are working on.
In practice, a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+M on Windows, Cmd+M on Mac) opens the Merlin panel on the current page. You can then ask for a summary of the displayed article, draft a reply to a Gmail message, get a timestamped summary of a YouTube video, or ask questions about an uploaded PDF document. The extension also integrates directly into Google Search, LinkedIn and Gmail to offer contextual suggestions.
Merlin suits freelancers, students, content creators and professionals who regularly juggle research, writing and summarisation tasks, and who want access to multiple models without managing separate subscriptions. The free plan offers a daily query quota sufficient to test all features before committing.
On the other hand, Merlin is not suitable for people working with sensitive or confidential data, as the extension reads the content of visited pages and sends it to its servers before forwarding it to the model APIs. It is also not a good fit for those who need truly unlimited usage with no caps, or for teams looking for an enterprise AI solution with advanced security guarantees.
