Gemini dans Chrome
Plugin : A set of capabilities installed into an AI application or a host · requires chrome
Gemini integrated into the browser: tab summarisation, questions about the page, assisted navigation.
The simplest option, it is native; but it is Google that reads your tabs.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Browsing the web often creates information overload: long articles, dozens of open tabs, and repetitive tasks spread across multiple sites. Gemini in Chrome addresses this by embedding an AI assistant directly in the browser, with no third-party extension required.
The tool appears as a side panel accessible from the Gemini icon in the Chrome toolbar or via a keyboard shortcut. It reads the content of the active tab and, on desktop, can analyse up to ten open tabs simultaneously to summarise, compare or answer contextual questions.
Gemini in Chrome is aimed at users who spend a lot of time reading articles, comparing information across multiple pages or carrying out repetitive online tasks. It also suits Google Workspace subscribers who want to connect their browsing to Gmail, Calendar or Drive without switching tabs.
It is not suited to people who want to minimise the sharing of their browsing data with Google, nor to those who primarily use Firefox, Safari or another browser: the feature is exclusive to Chrome on Mac, Windows and Chromebook Plus.
What it offers
- ·Active tab summary: Gemini condenses the current tab's content into key points accessible in one click.
- ·Multi-tab analysis: on desktop, up to ten open tabs can be shared with Gemini to compare or synthesise information.
- ·Contextual questions: ask any question about a page's content and get an answer without leaving the tab.
- ·Google Workspace integration: Gemini can create a Google Calendar event, summarise a YouTube video or draft an email based on the page being viewed.
- ·History search: find a previously visited site via a natural-language question, without scrolling through the browser history manually.
- ·Automated browsing (paid): the 'auto browse' feature lets Gemini autonomously handle multi-step web tasks, available from the Google AI Pro plan.
- ·Persistent side panel: the Gemini panel remains accessible throughout browsing without interrupting the current page.
