What it does, concretely

Improving the smoothness or resolution of a video usually requires complex tools that are difficult to configure, often reserved for experienced users. REAL Video Enhancer provides an accessible graphical interface to perform these operations without any command line.

The software allows you to interpolate frames to increase the number of frames per second (for example from 24 to 48 FPS) and to upscale video resolution (for example from 1920 to 3840 pixels). It relies on well-known models such as RIFE for interpolation and Real-ESRGAN or SPAN for upscaling, and uses FFmpeg for video file handling.

The tool is aimed at people who want to enhance personal videos, animations or older content, without having to master command-line tools. It suits both beginners and intermediate users with a compatible graphics card.

However, it is not suitable for users without a sufficiently powerful graphics card: a minimum of 4 GB of VRAM is required, and optimal performance requires an Nvidia RTX GPU from the 20 series or higher with 8 GB of VRAM.

What it offers

  • ·Frame interpolation to increase video smoothness, with several available models: RIFE (versions 4.6 to 4.25), GMFSS and IFRNet.
  • ·Video resolution upscaling using models such as Real-ESRGAN, SPAN, AnimeSR and several models specialized for animation.
  • ·Automatic scene change detection to preserve sharp transitions during interpolation.
  • ·Real-time preview showing the latest rendered frame during processing.
  • ·Support for multiple inference backends: TensorRT for Nvidia RTX GPUs, PyTorch via CUDA or ROCm, and NCNN for any Vulkan 1.3 compatible GPU.
  • ·Denoising models (DRUnet, DnCNN) and H.264 compression artifact removal (DeH264) available.
  • ·Available as an executable, a Flatpak on Flathub, and on Steam.

How to install REAL Video Enhancer

1. Go to the project's GitHub page (https://github.com/TNTwise/REAL-Video-Enhancer) or Flathub to download the version matching your system. 2. On Windows, download the executable: if your antivirus flags it, this is a false positive caused by PyInstaller. 3. On Linux, you can install the application via Flatpak from Flathub or download the executable directly. 4. Launch the application and let it install the required dependencies (inference backends) via PIP on first startup. 5. If backend detection fails, uninstall and reinstall the application before reporting an issue.
