Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

Automating repetitive browser tasks usually requires writing brittle scripts that break whenever a page changes. Browser Use lets you hand those tasks to an agent driven by a language model, which navigates, clicks, fills forms, and extracts data the way a human would.

In practice, you describe a task in plain language, the agent opens a browser, reads the page content, and chains the necessary actions to reach the goal. The open-source Python library runs locally and connects to the model of your choice (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama, and others). A fully hosted cloud offering also lets you submit tasks via an API without managing any infrastructure.

Browser Use is aimed at Python developers who want to embed web automation into their applications, and at teams that want to delegate navigation tasks to an agent without maintaining Playwright or Selenium scripts. A CLI option also lets existing agents such as Claude Code or Codex take control of a browser.

It is not suited to people without programming knowledge: the open-source version requires Python 3.11 or higher, API key management, and a basic understanding of virtual environments. Users looking for a no-code graphical interface should consider the fully hosted cloud version instead.

What it offers

  • ·Natural-language browser control: the agent interprets a text instruction and chains the necessary clicks, inputs, and navigations.
  • ·Compatibility with many language models: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama, and others are supported through dedicated wrappers.
  • ·Connection to a local or cloud browser: the agent can reuse an existing Chrome profile or connect to a hosted browser.
  • ·Custom tool support: Python functions can be registered and made available to the agent during execution.
  • ·Fully hosted cloud API: submit a task and retrieve the result without managing any infrastructure or browser. (paid)
  • ·Cloud browsers with stealth and residential proxies to reduce bot detection and CAPTCHA challenges. (paid)
  • ·Browser profile synchronisation to reuse authenticated sessions across multiple runs. (paid)
  • ·SDK available in Python and TypeScript to integrate Browser Use Cloud into an existing application. (paid)

How to install Browser Use

1. Make sure Python 3.11 or higher is installed on your machine. 2. Install uv if not already available, then initialise a project with uv init --python 3.12. 3. Install Browser Use with uv add browser-use. 4. Create a .env file at the project root and add your API key: OPENAI_API_KEY=your-key. 5. Create an agent.py file with your task, then run it with uv run agent.py. 6. Security note: never use your personal browser sessions for automated tasks; keep dedicated isolated profiles for the agent to limit access to your data.
