Excalidraw
App : A product you use directly
Hand-drawn style whiteboard, open source, with AI-powered diagram generation.
Completely free and unlimited: the diagram tool to recommend to everyone.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Drawing a clear diagram takes time, and traditional tools often come with complex interfaces or costly subscriptions. Excalidraw offers a free online whiteboard, with no account required, where you can create hand-drawn style diagrams in seconds.
The tool works directly in the browser: you draw shapes (rectangles, circles, arrows, free lines), add text and images, then export the result as PNG, SVG, or an .excalidraw file. Real-time collaboration is built in via a shareable link, and all sessions are end-to-end encrypted. The app also works offline thanks to PWA technology.
Excalidraw suits anyone who needs to quickly sketch an idea: developers, designers, teachers, project managers, or students. The deliberately sketchy style makes diagrams approachable and non-intimidating in presentations or meetings.
However, if you need polished visuals, precise vector graphics, or advanced document management, other specialized tools will be more appropriate. Excalidraw is also not a presentation or word-processing tool.
