CommandPost (Final Cut)
Plugin : A set of capabilities installed into an AI application or a host · requires final-cut
Automation and Final Cut Pro extensions, open source, with AI integrations.
The free Swiss Army knife for Final Cut editors.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Final Cut Pro editors lose time on repetitive tasks: assigning shortcuts, navigating long timelines, controlling physical control surfaces. CommandPost addresses this by adding hundreds of automations and extensions directly into Final Cut Pro.
The application works like an Automator dedicated to editors: it installs on macOS, integrates with Final Cut Pro, and exposes hundreds of actions that can be triggered via keyboard shortcuts, control surfaces (Tangent, Monogram, Loupedeck, Stream Deck, Razer), or a search console accessible from any application. Everything is scriptable in Lua and editable in a simple text editor.
CommandPost is aimed at professional editors, assistant editors, and colorists who work daily in Final Cut Pro and want to automate their workflow. It is also used by developers and advanced macOS users to automate other applications.
However, it is not suited for beginners looking for a plug-and-play solution without configuration: the wealth of options requires a learning curve. Additionally, since 2024, at least one paid LateNite application must be installed (from USD 10) to continue using CommandPost.
What it offers
- ·System-wide search console allowing any CommandPost action, Keyboard Maestro macro, or macOS shortcut to be triggered from any application.
- ·Extensive physical control surface support: Tangent, Monogram, Loupedeck, Stream Deck, and Razer keypads are natively supported.
- ·Titles to Keywords tool that automatically converts timeline titles into Final Cut Pro keywords to speed up tagging of complex scenes.
- ·Browser playhead highlight and scrolling timeline, two features absent from native Final Cut Pro.
- ·Export of timeline index and browser contents to a CSV file with a single keyboard shortcut.
- ·After Effects integration allowing any effect to be triggered from a control surface.
- ·Fully customisable Lua scripts: every behaviour of the application can be modified in a text editor, with Hammerspoon compatibility.
- ·Community-driven multilingual support covering more than 25 languages including French, Arabic, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
