Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

Creating images or videos with open-source AI models usually requires juggling multiple scripts, command lines, and parameters that are hard to reproduce. ComfyUI solves this by offering a visual canvas where each processing step is represented as a node connected to others, making the entire workflow readable and editable.

In practice, you assemble nodes on an infinite canvas: one node loads the model, another applies a text encoder, another generates the image, and a final one saves it. Every connection between nodes is visible, and every parameter can be adjusted on the fly. Workflows can be saved as JSON and shared, or recovered directly from a generated image that contains the metadata.

ComfyUI is aimed at visual creators who want precise control over every model and every parameter: illustrators, motion designers, and production pipeline developers. An App Mode simplifies the interface for already-built workflows, making it possible to share a ready-to-use tool with less technical collaborators.

However, the tool is not suited for people looking for a simple prompt-and-click interface without wanting to understand how models work. The learning curve of the node graph remains significant, and running the heaviest models requires hardware with sufficient VRAM.

What it offers

  • ·Image generation via dozens of open-source models: Stable Diffusion, Flux, HiDream, Hunyuan Image, and many others.
  • ·Video generation with models such as Wan 2.1 and 2.2, LTX-Video, HunyuanVideo, and CogVideoX.
  • ·Audio and music generation via models like ACE-Step and Stable Audio.
  • ·3D model generation and manipulation with Hunyuan3D and TripoSplat.
  • ·Access to closed commercial models via partner nodes, including MiniMax H3, Seedance, and Ideogram 4. (paid)
  • ·App Mode to expose a complex workflow through a simplified interface, without revealing the node graph.
  • ·Production API deployment via the Comfy developer platform. (paid)
  • ·Fully offline execution: the core software downloads nothing without your consent, and the --disable-api-nodes flag forces fully local operation.

How to install ComfyUI

1. Go to comfy.org/download and download the Desktop application (Windows or macOS). 2. Install the application and launch it: it automatically sets up the Python environment and dependencies. 3. On first launch, choose the location of your models or let ComfyUI create its own folders. 4. Load a workflow from the built-in library or import an existing JSON file. 5. Only install additional community nodes from recognized sources: they execute code directly on your machine. 6. On Linux or for full control, manual installation via the GitHub repository is also available and supports NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and Apple Silicon GPUs.
