From text, an image, or a scan to a printable model.
Oriented towards 3D printing, well funded.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Computer-aided design (CAD) has been a powerful but inaccessible tool for decades, reserved for trained professionals due to its steep learning curve. Backflip AI aims to make 3D modeling available to everyone by automating geometry reconstruction from existing files.
In practice, the tool accepts 3D mesh files (STL, OBJ, GLB, GLTF, or PLY) and automatically converts them into fully parametric 3D models with a complete feature tree, sketch constraints, and external references, exportable as .STEP or directly into a CAD package. Two processing modes are available: a fast mode and a more thorough agentic thinking mode.
Backflip AI is designed for engineers, makers, and designers who already use tools like Autodesk Fusion or Onshape and want to speed up their workflow without switching software. An add-in is available for Autodesk Fusion, with additional plugins announced.
However, the tool is not yet suited for those looking to design sheet metal or injection-molded parts, as these features are still in development. It is also less relevant for users who do not have existing mesh files to convert.
What it offers
- ·Automatic conversion of 3D mesh files (STL, OBJ, GLB, GLTF, PLY) into parametric CAD models with a full feature tree.
- ·Export of generated models in .STEP format, compatible with most CAD software.
- ·Direct integration into Autodesk Fusion via an add-in, without switching tools.
- ·Two processing modes available: fast mode and agentic thinking mode for more thorough results.
- ·Support for standard CAD operations: Extrude, Revolve, Pattern, Chamfer, Fillet, and more.
- ·Optimized for 3-axis CNC machined parts and turned parts.
- ·Data encryption in transit and at rest, with organization-level access separation and no use of customer data for model training.
