Guardrails AI
App : A product you use directly
LLM input and output validators (PII, toxicity, format) with a validator hub.
Practical for enforcing a format and filtering outputs; lighter than NeMo.
Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.
What it does, concretely
Applications built on large language models (LLMs) can produce unpredictable outputs: exposed personal data, toxic language, incorrect formatting, or competitor mentions. Guardrails AI addresses this by adding a validation layer between your application and the model.
In practice, Guardrails AI is installed in Python via pip and lets you define 'guards' that intercept both the inputs sent to the LLM and the outputs it returns. Each guard combines one or more validators from the Guardrails Hub, a library of ready-to-use rules covering toxicity, personal data detection, format checking, competitor mentions, and more. On failure, the framework can raise an exception, filter the response, or trigger a custom action.
Guardrails AI can also be used to generate structured data from an LLM: by providing a Pydantic model, it forces the output to conform to a precise JSON schema, using function calling or prompt optimization depending on the model. It can also be deployed as a standalone service exposing an OpenAI-compatible REST API.
This tool is aimed at Python developers integrating LLMs into production applications who want to control the quality and safety of exchanges. It is not designed for non-technical users looking for a graphical interface, nor for those who want a turnkey solution without writing code.
What it offers
- ·Input and output validation for LLMs via configurable Python guards.
- ·Guardrails Hub: a library of ready-to-use validators installable individually via pip (toxicity, personal data, regex, competitor checks, etc.).
- ·Structured data generation conforming to a Pydantic schema from any LLM.
- ·Deployment as a standalone REST server (Flask + Gunicorn) compatible with the OpenAI SDK.
- ·Compatibility with both proprietary and open-source LLMs.
- ·Creation of custom validators that can be contributed to the Guardrails Hub.
- ·Python and JavaScript support.
