Skill

grill-me (Matt Pocock)

Skill : A reusable method: instructions, procedures, sometimes scripts or templates · requires claude-code

The agent questions you relentlessly on your plan, branch by branch, until every decision is clear, before writing a single line of code.

A small skill with a big impact: it catches gaps in a specification before they become costly. Also works outside code to challenge any project.

Security reflects where data goes, requested permissions and incidents on record at the verification date. It is not a guarantee of zero risk: check the deployment mode and the connections you enable.

What it does, concretely

When you hand a task to a coding agent, the most common problem is not technical: it is misalignment. The agent starts writing code without truly understanding what you wanted, and the result misses the mark. grill-me exists to close that gap before it costs time or money.

In practice, the skill questions the user branch by branch on their plan: it asks precise questions, waits for clear answers, and only moves forward once every decision is explicit. No code is written until the grilling session is complete. The skill can also read the existing repository to ask more relevant questions.

grill-me is aimed at anyone working with Claude Code who wants to avoid starting over because the agent misread the request. It is useful for development tasks as well as for challenging any project or specification, even outside a coding context.

It is not suited to those looking for a tool that handles the entire development process end to end: grill-me is deliberately small and focused. It does one thing, the alignment phase, and leaves the rest to other skills or to the user.

What it offers

  • ·Questions the user branch by branch on their plan before any code is generated.
  • ·Blocks code writing until every decision has been explicitly clarified.
  • ·Can read the existing repository to ask questions better suited to the project context.
  • ·Usable outside a development context to challenge any project or specification.
  • ·Installable as a managed Claude Code plugin with automatic updates, or as editable files via skills.sh.
  • ·Composable with other skills in the collection (for example grill-with-docs to add domain modelling).
  • ·Distributed under the MIT licence, free of charge.
