Managing taxes in France involves many steps: filing income tax returns, paying property taxes, monitoring withholding at source, and managing real estate assets. The impots.gouv.fr portal centralises all these tax obligations in a single official space, accessible free of charge.

In practice, the service allows users to log in to their Finances publiques account to file their income tax return online, correct an already submitted return, pay taxes, check a tax notice, or adjust their withholding rate following a change in personal situation. Tax calculators are also available to estimate the amount owed before taking any action.

The portal is designed for both individuals and businesses. Companies can find information on VAT, the CFE business tax, mandatory electronic invoicing (required since 1 September 2026 for large companies and mid-sized enterprises), and dedicated support for SMEs.

How to install impots.gouv

1. Go to impots.gouv.fr from a web browser or download the official app from the App Store or Google Play. 2. Click on "Connexion à mon espace Finances publiques" (log in to my Finances publiques account). 3. Sign in with your tax number and password, or create an account if you do not have one yet. 4. Since summer 2025, activate the two-factor authentication offered at login to secure your access. 5. Beware of fake sites imitating impots.gouv.fr: always check that the address starts with "impots.gouv.fr" before entering your credentials.
