An analysis published on the ProductRise blog claims that Google's AI Mode, which generates synthetic answers alongside product recommendations, tends to surface pricier items than those returned by traditional search. According to the authors, the average gap observed reaches 21.6% for identical product queries run through both interfaces. The piece does not publicly disclose a full methodology, but the claim rests on a direct comparison of results for matching search terms across the two experiences.

The finding fits into a broader pattern of scrutiny around AI-powered search systems, which reformulate and rank information through processes that remain largely opaque to users.
