GPT-6 Luna

OpenAI

Verdict

Strong value for high-volume usage.

Overview

GPT-6 Luna was released on 22 September 2026 together with GPT-6 Sol. It is the smallest model of the GPT-6 family, built for repetitive, high-volume tasks: classification, extraction, routine transformations, and routing requests to a stronger model when needed. It costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 output, with a 90% discount on cached input. It shares Sol's 1.05-million-token context, 128,000 output tokens, text and image input, and Responses API tools. It is a natural candidate for the first stage of an agent pipeline or for bulk processing. Like every OpenAI model, it is only available through the API or OpenAI products, hosted outside the European Union by default.

What people prefer, what the model can do, what the market uses. Each source has its biases and none is enough on its own: we show them side by side, never blended.

Strengths

  • World-class on Arena
  • Very long context
  • Competitive input pricing

Who is it for

A good fit if…
  • you build with a coding agent
  • you want to control cost or self-host
  • your data must stay in the EU
Skip it if…

    Ideal use cases

    • Large-scale classification and extraction
    • Request routing in an agent pipeline
    • Minimum-cost bulk processing

    75/100

This score measures the quality of the data on this card: price, context, Elo, licence, documented, sourced and fresh. It measures neither the model nor its compliance: for that, see the Trust Index above.
