What it does, concretely
When reading a lot online, important ideas tend to get lost in forgotten tabs or scattered notes. Glasp solves this by letting you highlight directly on any web page, PDF, YouTube video, or Kindle book, and centralising all those annotations in a single profile accessible from any device.
In practice, after installing the extension and creating a free account, you simply select a passage and a colour menu appears. The highlight is saved automatically, with no button to click. A sidebar lets you add notes and tags, and access an AI summary of the current page or video. Annotations can then be exported as Markdown, HTML, CSV, or JSON, or sent directly to Notion, Obsidian, Roam Research, Logseq, Evernote, and other applications.
Glasp is aimed at researchers, students, journalists, writers, and avid readers who want to build a personal knowledge base from their online reading. The social dimension of the tool also allows users to follow others and discover what they are highlighting, in a collective learning approach.
On the other hand, Glasp is less suitable for those who want to keep all their annotations strictly private without upgrading to a paid plan, as highlights are public by default on the free plan. The tool will also be of little use to someone who does not read regularly online or has no need to retain their reading.
